when i remember jersey, i think of "nuh jersey and you, perfect togetha."
i just saw this movie in it's entirety, just now. it was awesome. i really got a lot out of it. not just the subtleties, like the shirt matching the wallpaper, but the wisdom about life too. my hat off to you, zack braff, for writing, directing and starring in this creative genius.
i watched the first part of it while i waited an excruciatingly long time for brake slackers to screw-up my brake job. i walked a ways across town, had lunch at a hole in the wall and called a friend who lived nearby. she had rented 'garden state' the night before and was in the middle of a lazy afternoon, recovering from a week of work. the sun was out, but it was still a chilling day in october. she invited me in. we had some tea and talked about life, friends and work. then, "there was something we had to do," she said, and it was watch this movie. we moved into the bedroom, where she kept the television. she brought in the remainder of her tea and moved over the mountain of covers. for some reason, she is much colder than other human beings i have known and always, when there is a chill, she feels it most. she even dreads the coming of the cold season, as if it were a trip to the dentist. she opened up the 2 dollar new release rental and popped it in. we snuggled in the cumulus of comforters and pillows, as if for a long winters nap. intrigued with smiles from a celluloid dream, with jarring abruption, i answered my phone, only to hear the mechanic throwing fictitious excuses at me from the other end of a different world. leaving my familiar coziness, i acquiesced and hurried to meet the closing deadline of 15 minutes. the last glimpse of comfort i had that day, was a smile as i closed the passenger side door.
